Basava was known as a social reformer who opposed every dscrimination in the society. he was a great philospher who was born in Karnataka in the 13th Century. He was a great philosopher believed in shaivam and also respected other beliefs. He opposed his father’s superior beliefs of caste and left home when he was a child. You heard it right ! Nandeeswara who was lord shiva’s devotee and vehicle, was the one who reincarnated as Basava in the 13th century in Karnataka. He was the one who discovered lingayat culture in order to remove inequalities in society, Hence he became a social reformer. Lingayat refers to a lord shiva’s devotee respecting every individual and standing against of every discrimination like caste,race,gender etc.

Basava was an anti caste opposing every discrimination in the society. he opposed his own father and left house in his early childhood. He taught great vachanas to change the evil mindset in society. His writings are famously known as Basava philosophy, Vachanas etcHe is the reason for the fast spread of shaivam in karnataka and as well as India at the time of 13th century. His fights against caste were immense and powerful. He has no superior feelings in him and was a great philosopher as well.

No Gender bias in Basava Philosphy :

13th century was the time where caste,gender discriminations were high. Then the lord shiva’s devotee, Basava who was a social reformer opposed caste discrimination. He was not just against of caste but he also opposed gender bias in the society. he encouraged women for employment, graduation and independency. women were not allowed for studying Vedas and treated as a housewife at the time of 13th century. Basava opposed the gender bias and encouraged every individual to read Vedas. He brought special reforms to remove gender bias especially to protect women rights.

Basava was celebrated by every woman on Basava jayanti as he was the main reason for their freedom in many regional places.

Basava Vachanas :

Nandeeswara Amsha, Basava was more famous for his great writings called vachanas. He has encouraged many great philosophies and taught to his students. few of his students noted all of his words and introduced a great book called “vachanas” to spread shaivam and equality all over the world.

Like shree krishna’s Bhagavad Gita from Mahabharatham, Basava’s Vachanas are very famous as hindu philosophies. Hindu Epics like Mahabharatham and Ramayanam also do refers to dharma,artha,kama,moksha; purushaardhas which are taught by basava in Kaliyuga.
